Identifying wild plants to eat could be a way to gather food, or get really sick. The food bought in town should be all dried, not as heavy, and not as good as a wild meal. Maybe that is 5.1E rules (I found 2 lbs). Its a 1 day worth of food and weighs 3 lbs. I don't understand the ration pack in general. Mini games for hunting, fishing, and foraging for extra food would be interesting.

The need for food makes having a Ranger useful and taking the survival skill. However, its not a wilderness survival game its a 5.1E tactical adventure game. I like the idea of possibly starving and having to survive in some manner. I see green but is it a forest? hills? mountain? grasslands? On the map, it would be nice to know what terrian I am traveling on. Interactions with NPCs could reveal trading posts or stops where food can be obtained. It would be nice to be able to queue up hunting and foraging for food. I have a Ranger and took a ton of rations only to barely have any at the Bone Castle. Happy to hear that they are actively engaging our concerns! From what I have heard, the devs are actively engaged in tuning this issue and have already addressed adding additional rations to be looted/otherwise obtained in-game. Still, if a feature of the game in some way necessitates the inclusion of a particular class in your party to deal with a problem (in this case, rations management), it's not the best look. That said, I'm given to understand that (1) quests will not have timers attached to them (a la the original Baldur's Gate games), so if there is a better chance of gathering food at a slow pace, that's an incentive (2) traveling at a fast pace, while potentially incurring more random encounters (which, even so, generates additional sweet, sweet XP!), may help with stretching existing resources out and (3) having a Ranger in the party practically guarantees gathering more food, in addition to preventing negative bonuses to traveling at faster paces. If rations will not be more readily available, it disincentivizes exploration for exploration's sake. (Yes, you could still take long rests for 10 gold in the inn, but that doesn't help a starving party in the middle of the Badlands.)Īgree with the points made above. Maybe the tavern/inn should provide food and sell rations as well, in our opinion. Regarding the fact that this is quite a large city, there should be more than one single shop that sells some rations. Please consider changing this, food rations should be sold in bigger amounts and respawn more frequently. We bought ten rations at the beginning of our journey, that was all we could ever get.

Our adventure took several in-game weeks, and the store in the city was still not offering any more rations when we returned. There might be a chance to gather food while travelling or even looting rations from fallen enemies, but it is never enough to serve the whole party, and most of the time, we travel for several days without being able to find any food. We barely made it back from our last adventure, having run out of food on the way and fighting monsters with our bare minimum cantrips and other at-will powers, because we were unable to take a long rest. Unfortunately, our party cannot hope to reach our next destination on the map, because we are out of rations, and so is every store in Caer Cyflen, apparently. My friend and I have been playing since yesterday, and were looking forward to continuing our adventure today, because the game you have made is so much fun to us!
